Eight digital prints, engraved glass.
In July last year, Caitlin Greenberg and I collaborated on the exhibition “Artefact” at the Pretoria Art Museum. We both explored emotional themes, expressing them through personal narratives.
Deliverance is inspired by the video work, “Television Delivers People” (1973) — by Richard Serra (USA) and Carlota Fay Schoolman (USA).
For Deliverance eight digital prints were captured (appropriated) from screen-shots whilst streaming the video online (from ubu.com). I engraved words and text on the glass to “impose” my own thoughts, adding an additional layer.
The power of Serra and Schoolman’s message is amplified in our contemporary context…
