Glass Now – African Perspectives
05 – 26 July 2025
Moya African Glass Network (NPC) proudly presents its first group exhibition, Glass Now – African Perspectives, opening on 5 July 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Association of Arts, Pretoria.
This milestone is the first to bring together a dynamic group of artists working in glass from across South Africa, including contributions from Kenya and Eswatini.
The exhibition will officially be opened by Professor P. Sidogi, respected researcher and arts advocate. Live hot glass demonstration will follow the opening, showcasing torch work by Borilla Glass and the hot manipulation of up-cycling glass bottles into refined tumblers and experimental forms by Full Circle Glass Co.
This is a day for all ages — not just a showcase of fantastic craftsmanship, but an experience with engagement, and entertainment for the whole family.
Our launch also marks the first public event under the Moya African Glass Network banner, a non-profit organisation founded by a passionate group of glass artists, educators and business people. The network’s core mission is to build and strengthen a continental glass art community through:
- Connecting local and international artists, collectors, and enthusiasts…
- Promoting youth development and educational opportunities in glass…
- Advocating sustainable practices and promoting handmade glass as inscribed by UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage…
- Establishing Africa as a vibrant, innovative and globally recognized glass destination!
Mission Statement:
We strive to build a thriving African glass art community by connecting artists, collectors, and enthusiasts while promoting education, sustainability, and resource sharing. Through youth development and international collaborations, we aim to position Africa as a leading glass art destination, upholding UNESCO standards and securing support for the growth of the network.
