New Glass Review 45 – Corning Museum of Glass
It is that time of year again when one checks the mailbox more regularly. Problem is that you find all those bills first and then… with great anticipation the latest copy of New Glass Review arrives!
Home Sweet Home has been selected for New Glass Review 45, the Corning Museum of Glass’ annual juried publication of international glass art. It is an honor and privilege to be included in a publication that annually documents global trends in art and sculpture made with glass in its myriad forms, shapes, techniques and narratives.
It is also a proud moment to represent South Africa — and Africa — on an international platform. I hope to see more voices participating and challenging global trends with our own flavor of glass.
Home Sweet Home is a series of three sculptures exploring my connection to the land we live on. The stones were gathered from our property. The leather strap that binds them is deliberate — fragile, but holding.
In 2023 the City of Tshwane enforced an expropriation order on our property without any meaningful negotiation. We fought the case for three years and were vindicated when the court set the expropriation aside. These three sculptures carry that story — the fragile bonds between a person, a home, and the land they love.
Home Sweet Home #3 was selected for New Glass Review 45.
